Global Trade Rebalancing, Fiscal Reforms Among Areas Of Discussion At Meeting With IMF -- PM Anwar

KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 28 (Bernama) -- The bilateral meeting with the International Monetary Fund (IMF) today touched on global trade rebalancing, the strengthening of the international financial safety net, as well as fiscal reforms under the MADANI Economy framework, said Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

Anwar said his meeting with IMF managing director Kristalina Georgieva also further cemented the close and constructive relationship between Malaysia and the Bretton Woods institution based on periodic consultations, technical assistance and close policy collaboration.

“Malaysia remains committed to fiscal discipline and economic growth that is inclusive and sustainable, with forecast growth of between 4.0 per cent and 4.8 per cent for 2025,” the Prime Minister said in a statement. 

The meeting between Anwar and Georgieva took place on the sidelines of the 47th ASEAN Summit and Related Summits hosted by Malaysia from Oct 26 to 28.

Also present during the meeting were Foreign Minister Datuk Seri Mohamad Hasan, Finance Minister II Datuk Seri Amir Hamzah Azizan and Bank Negara Malaysia Governor Datuk Seri Abdul Rasheed Ghaffour.
