KUALA LUMPUR, Oct 28 (Bernama) -- Malaysia and Singapore have pledged to further strengthen their bilateral relations based on trust, mutual respect, and shared benefits, in line with both nations’ aspirations to ensure lasting prosperity and stability in the region.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the matter was agreed upon during his bilateral meeting with his Singaporean counterpart Lawrence Wong, held on the sidelines of the 47th ASEAN Summit here today.
He said both leaders agreed to maintain the positive momentum of ongoing discussions in a constructive manner, while ensuring that every progress achieved translates into tangible benefits for the peoples of both countries.
“I look forward to the continued efforts during the 12th Malaysia-Singapore Leaders’ Retreat this December,” Anwar said.
Anwar also expressed hope that the spirit of friendship and kinship between the two neighbours would continue to flourish and remain a cornerstone of regional stability and prosperity.
Wong, accompanied by his wife Loo Tze Lui and Foreign Minister Dr Vivian Balakrishnan, was among the leaders attending the three-day ASEAN Summit and Related Summits at the Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.
Malaysia and Singapore remain each other’s largest trading partners, with bilateral trade from January to November 2024 reaching USD78.59 billion (RM360.12 billion), an increase of 6.7 per cent compared to the same period in 2023.
This year also marks the 60th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two nations.
