PM Anwar Extends Support To Injured Police Outriders on ASEAN Summit Duty

HULU SELANGOR, Oct 28 (Bernama) -- Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim has expressed concern for two police outriders who were injured while on duty during the 47th ASEAN Summit, and has directed that immediate assistance be extended to them.

Prime Minister’s senior political secretary Datuk Seri Shamsul Iskandar Mohd Akin said he visited the officers on Anwar’s behalf to deliver contributions as a mark of appreciation for their dedication and sacrifices.

“I was informed that both officers sustained serious injuries. Upon receiving reports of the incident, the Prime Minister immediately instructed me to provide aid and convey his words of encouragement to them,” he told Bernama after visiting the officers in Puchong and Hulu Selangor today.

“This gesture reflects the Prime Minister’s appreciation for the commitment and professionalism of our security forces in ensuring the smooth conduct of the ASEAN Summit,” he added.

Also present were Bukit Aman Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT) director Datuk Seri Mohd Yusri Hassan Basri and Home Minister’s political secretary Omar Mokhtar.

Shamsul Iskandar said the aid was also meant to ease the burden of the officers’ families, who have been affected by the injuries.

“The Prime Minister stressed the importance of providing immediate support, given the high-risk nature of their duties in safeguarding public safety,” he said.

He also expressed gratitude to all security personnel for their professionalism and commitment throughout the ASEAN Summit.

In the first incident last Saturday, Corporal Kamarul Suari, 35, was injured when his motorcycle was hit by a Toyota Hilux four-wheel drive near the Dengkil Rest and Service Area exit northbound on the Elite Highway.

Kamarul, who serves with the Kuala Lumpur JSPT Traffic Control Division, suffered a fractured left calf and injuries to his ankle and knee.

In a separate incident on Sunday, Lance Corporal Muhammad Danial Mohd Nadzri, 25, from the Putrajaya District Police Headquarters, sustained injuries in a collision on Jalan Tun Razak while escorting a foreign delegation.

Meanwhile, Mohd Yusri said 11 minor accidents involving vehicles carrying dignitaries and escort teams were recorded during the summit.

He said a post-mortem will be conducted to review standard operating procedures and identify improvement measures to further enhance the safety of personnel and road users.
