RMN Senior Officer Charged With Corruption Involving RM93,800

‎SHAH ALAM, Oct 31 (Bernama) -- A senior Royal Malaysian Navy (RMN) officer pleaded not guilty in the Sessions Court here today to eight corruption charges by accepting RM93,800 from a person concerned with his official function.

Captain Mahazam Ali, 48, made the plea before Judge Awang Kerisnada Awang Mahmud.

Mahazam, as Director of Human Resources Strategy, Human Resources Division and Director of Communications Branch, Defence Cyber ​​Electromagnetics Division, is charged with receiving RM93,000 without consideration from a person having a connection with his official function.

He is alleged to have received the money from a 33-year-old man through a 31-year-old woman at a Shah Alam bank branch between Oct 13, 2023, and April 25, 2025.

The charges were framed under Section 165 of the Penal Code, which provides a maximum jail term of two years or a fine or both upon conviction.

Mahazam is allowed bail of RM10,000 and ordered that he not disturb any witnesses, including colleagues at the Ministry of Defence and is also prohibited from accessing any files and data related to the case.

The court set Dec 17 for mention.

Deputy public prosecutor Atirah Mohd Azuarizanuddin appeared for the prosecution, while Mahazam is represented by lawyer Lee Keng Fatt.
