JOHOR BAHRU, Nov 1 (Bernama) -- Media practitioners nationwide have been urged to give their full support to the Malaysian Media Council (MMC), which will hold its inaugural annual general meeting (AGM) on Nov 7 — a key step towards strengthening professionalism and integrity in the country’s journalism industry.

Federation of Malaysian Media Clubs (GKMM) president Mohamad Fauzi Ishak said the MMC serves as an important platform to empower the national media landscape and provide guidance on ethics and competency development among media professionals.

“The presence of media practitioners at the AGM is vital, as they will play a role in electing members of the Council Board who will lead and determine the future direction of the MMC,” he said.

He was speaking at the Johor Media Club (KMJ) 2025 AGM here, officiated by State Education and Information Committee chairman Aznan Tamin and attended by 85 members.

Among the key agendas for the MMC AGM are the election of Council Board members under Section 8(4) of the Malaysian Media Council Act, the setting of future AGM procedures, the determination of membership fees, the adoption of operational policies and discussions on the 2026 budget.

Mohamad Fauzi, who also serves as KMJ president, said that in the digital era, the media’s role extends beyond reporting news to include filtering information, shaping public perception and safeguarding public integrity.

Fourteen new KMJ committee members were also elected for the 2025/2026 term, with Mohamad Fauzi retaining his position as club president.
