KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 2 (Bernama) -- Professional golfer Mirabel Ting emerged as Maybank Championship’s best-performing Malaysian for the second consecutive year, and her first as a professional.
The 19-year-old carded a one-over 73 in the final round today to finish T49 with a three-under 285 total at the Kuala Lumpur Golf and Country Club (KLGCC), which included birdies on Holes Three, Five, 17 and 18, bogeys on Holes Six, 10 and 16 and a double bogey at the Ninth.
Despite not producing her best outing, Mirabel remained upbeat about her overall performance.
“I enjoyed my round, even not playing my best, but was hitting my irons a lot better today. Just putts didn’t really drop, so I just think it’s another day of golf. Sometimes you have a bad day and sometimes you have a good day,” she said to reporters here today.
The young golfer, who turned professional this year, did not feel that her transition had changed her performance much.
“There is a lot of support definitely, but like I said before, to me, amateur golf or professional golf doesn’t really matter.
“Definitely there is a lot of expectations and trying to do well, but overall it’s still the same because I’m still hitting the ball. I’m still playing the golf course,” she said.
Mirabel is planning to secure her LPGA Tour card and expressed a desire to be able to play around 16 to 18 events next year as a rookie.
Other Malaysians in the field also finished respectably, with Kelly Tan and Genevieve Ling at T56 with two-under 286 after shooting 75 and 71 respectively, while Ashley Lau (70) carded two-over 290 and Liyana Durisic (T72) with four-over 292.
