SUNGAI PETANI, Nov 2 (Bernama) - The 2025 Fisheries Day Programme (PHP 2025) which took place over three days from Oct 31 at Pantai Merdeka near here, drew 17,147 visitors, generating RM65,942.10 in sales.

Fisheries director-general Datuk Adnan Hussain said the encouraging public response reflected growing awareness and interest in the fisheries sector as a source of livelihood, economic opportunity, and a natural asset that must be preserved.

“This programme is not just a space for fun but also a platform to bring the community closer to the department’s efforts to strengthen resource sustainability and introduce new innovations in the fisheries industry.

“Direct community involvement is crucial to ensure the continuity of both marine and inland fishery resources,” he said in a statement today.

He added that PHP 2025 was a continuation of the inaugural event held in 2024 in Putrajaya, and this year’s edition aimed to enhance public awareness about the importance of fishery resources and the industry’s role in supporting national food security.

“Various activities were held throughout the three-day event, including interactive exhibitions, sales booths, Fun Run and Fun Walk, traditional games, colouring contests, and community activities that emphasised messages of sustainability and responsibility towards the nation’s fishery resources,” he added.
