KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 3 (Bernama) -- The Youth and Sports Ministry (KBS) has allocated RM500,000 for the inaugural 2025 Lawn Bowls World Cup, which will be held here from tomorrow until Nov 8.

Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh said the Malaysia Stadium Corporation (PSM) has also spent RM1 million to purchase a portable bowling green for use in the tournament.

“PSM has spent about RM1 million to complete preparations for this World Cup. As for the Youth and Sports Ministry, we have allocated RM500,000 for the hosting of the Lawn Bowls World Cup here.

“Our hope is that, now that we already have a world champion in lawn bowls, more Malaysians should get to know about the sport, and the World Cup will raise greater awareness of lawn bowls among the local community,” she said.

She told reporters this after launching the 2025 Lawn Bowls World Cup at Bukit Kiara here today.

Hannah also said the ministry intends to retain the portable bowling green at Stadium Juara as the national team’s training venue in preparation for the Glasgow Commonwealth Games.

As such, she has directed PSM to review the use of Stadium Juara to ensure it does not clash with other tournaments or training sessions.

“This infrastructure is not only for competitions but also for our national athletes’ long-term training. They will need it until June to prepare for the Commonwealth Games.

“So now, PSM will need to reorganise the schedule because, as you know, Stadium Juara is also used as a training venue for netball and badminton,” she said.

On another matter, Hannah said she has yet to receive any update on the decision of the International Federation of Association Football (FIFA) regarding the appeal against the sanctions imposed on the Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) and seven heritage players, as no announcement has been made yet.

“I am also waiting for the outcome of FAM’s appeal so that the committee led by Tun Raus (Sharif) can begin its work as soon as possible after the decision is made.

“I believe everyone wants to know what actually happened and expects a thorough investigation to be carried out. I have confidence in the leadership of Tun Raus, the former Chief Justice, and I believe he will do his best because this concerns Malaysia’s reputation,” she said.
