Two Magnitude 6.2 Earthquakes Strike Off Coast Of Russia's Kamchatka Peninsula

VLADIVOSTOK (Russia), Nov 3 (Bernama-Xinhua) -- Two earthquakes with a magnitude of 6.2 were recorded off the coast of Kamchatka Peninsula in Russia's Far East on Monday, Xinhua reported, quoting the local geophysical service.

The first quake occurred at 7:10 p.m. local time (0710 GMT), with the epicentre at a depth of 22.3 km in Avacha Bay, 154 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky, local research scientists said.

The second earthquake jolted the region at 8:44 p.m. local time (0844 GMT), with its epicentre at a depth of 36.2 km, also in Avacha Bay, 186 km from Petropavlovsk-Kamchatsky.

On July 30, Kamchatka experienced an earthquake with a magnitude of 8.7, triggering tsunami warnings and a state of emergency in parts of Kamchatka and the Severo-Kurilsk district. The region has continued to experience aftershocks ever since.
