Man Charged With Trafficking Over 2kg Of Drugs In Sibu

SIBU, 5 Nov (Bernama) -- A man was charged in the Magistrate's Court here today with trafficking and taking drugs last month.

Moh Mee Hing, 57, pleaded not guilty to the drug-use charge, while no plea was recorded for the drug-trafficking charge. The case was heard before Magistrate Romario Jonoi.

For the first charge, under Section 39B(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, he was accused of trafficking 2.05 kg of methamphetamine at a house in Lorong 6, Rejang Park, at about 11 am on Oct 22.

If convicted, the accused faces either the death penalty or life imprisonment. If life imprisonment is imposed instead of the death sentence, he must also receive at least 15 strokes of the cane, as provided under Section 39B(2) of the same law.

For the second charge, Moh is accused of consuming amphetamine and methamphetamine at about 6 pm on the same day at the Sungai Merah police station, Jalan Wawasan.

The charge was framed under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for a fine of up to RM5,000 or imprisonment for up to two years. Upon completion of the sentence, the accused may also be ordered to undergo supervision for a period of two to three years under Section 38B of the same law.

The court did not offer bail, and the accused was ordered to remain in remand pending the completion of the Chemistry Department’s report. The case has been fixed for mention on Feb 6 next year.

Deputy public prosecutor Haris Danial Mohamed Hassan appeared for the prosecution, while the accused was represented by lawyer Rosli Gapor.
