JAKARTA, Nov 5 (Bernama) -- Indonesia deployed 155,938 personnel from multiple agencies on Wednesday for a nationwide disaster preparedness drill as the country braces for potential floods and landslides during the rainy season.

National Police (Polri) Chief General Listyo Sigit Prabowo presided over the main ceremony at the headquarters of its paramilitary unit, the Mobile Brigade (Brimob), in Depok, West Java, which was attended by 2,915 officers.

“This drill reflects Polri’s commitment to stand at the forefront in protecting and serving the public amid the threat of natural disasters,” Sigit said.

The exercise was aimed at testing coordination among agencies and improving readiness to respond swiftly to emergencies, he added.

Polri have prepared 125 mobile kitchens, 77 water treatment units and 23 generators to support relief operations and provide clean water in affected areas.

According to the Meteorology, Climatology and Geophysics Agency (BMKG), around 43.8 per cent of Indonesia has entered the rainy season, which is expected to peak between this month and January next year.

A weak La Niña weather pattern has also been detected and is forecast to persist until February 2026, potentially increasing rainfall intensity.

Indonesia, situated along the Pacific “Ring of Fire”, is among the world’s most disaster-prone countries, frequently experiencing floods, earthquakes, and volcanic eruptions.
