KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 6 (Bernama) -- A total of 49 individuals, comprising current and former officers of banking institutions, suspected of receiving bribes from several law firms, will be charged in stages throughout November.
According to sources, the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has obtained approval to prosecute the individuals, with all charges expected to be brought before the Shah Alam Sessions Court.
“They are believed to have received bribes or commissions in exchange for appointing the law firms involved to handle financing agreement documents for customers who applied for loans at several banking institutions between 2018 and 2023.
“The corrupt activities involving the law firms and bank officers were uncovered by the MACC through Op Tiger, conducted around June 2024, during which it was found that commissions or fees were paid before the customers’ loan transactions were completed,” the sources said.
All of them will be charged under Section 16(a)(A) of the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) Act 2009, involving a total of 249 charges related to bribes amounting to nearly RM700,000.
