Veteran Actor Hafidzuddin Selective In Choosing Roles

KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 6 (Bernama) -- Although known as an actor who is rather selective about his roles, veteran actor Hafidzuddin Fazil’s principles have never sidelined him from Malaysia’s entertainment industry.

In fact, the 67-year-old actor’s talent continues to make him a preferred choice among local directors and producers to bring diverse characters to life on screen.

Unfazed about turning down roles that might compromise his dignity or conflict with Islamic values, the Kuantan-born actor, who starred in the film ‘Duyung’, believes that it is a Muslim actor’s responsibility to maintain moral boundaries and a proper image.

“Sometimes I have to reject certain roles because they’re not appropriate. For example, I was once offered the role of a Jewish character in a stage play. When I saw the script, I said, ‘Oh, a Jewish role,’ I then thanked them and told them to find someone else.

“If a role requires me to dress as a woman, I also decline, not only because it goes against my principles but also my faith. However, I don’t mind playing a villain or an antagonist as that’s part of the art of acting,” he told Bernama recently.

Hafidzuddin also said that for every script he receives, he evaluates not only the storyline but also the underlying and overt messages it aims to deliver to the audience.

As for his latest work, the grandfather of 14 has just completed filming the telemovie ‘Malam Tiga Syukur’, produced by Radio Televisyen Malaysia (RTM) in Pekan, Pahang, which is expected to air next year.

The actor, who also appeared in the film ‘Cinta Kolestrol’, also worked in the Taiwanese drama series ‘Mad Doctor 2’, which he considers a personal milestone at this stage of his career.

“The filming there (in Taiwan) only took a day, and it may continue here later, though nothing has been confirmed yet. As long as my health permits and the role suits me, I’ll keep acting. I can still manage, thank God,” he said.
