PUTRAJAYA, Nov 7 (Bernama) -- The Malaysian government has issued a stern warning to foreign tourists entering the country on social visit passes not to work or engage in business activities during their stay.
MADANI Government spokesperson Datuk Fahmi Fadzil said the Cabinet was informed today of reports involving tourists who have misused the pass for employment and commercial purposes.
“The Cabinet reminds that holders of the Social Visit Pass are strictly prohibited from working or conducting business in Malaysia. Firm enforcement action will be taken against those found violating the relevant laws,” Fahmi, who is also Communications Minister, said at a post-Cabinet press conference here today.
Earlier reports revealed that as of September this year, more than 400 tourists had been arrested for abusing their social visit passes to work or run businesses in the country.
