KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 7 (Bernama) -- National lawn bowlers Izzat Shameer Dzulkeple and Soufi Rusli advanced to the quarter-finals of the men's singles event at the World Bowls Championship after completing the group stage today.
Izzat Shameer progressed after topping Group 4 with four wins from five matches, while Soufi finished second in his group with three wins from five outings.
Izzat and both he and Soufi were pleased to have reached the quarter-finals but acknowledged that their mission was far from complete.
“Our target has not been achieved yet because reaching the quarter-finals does not guarantee a medal. So we will try to qualify for the semi-finals to secure a medal,” he told reporters today.
Meanwhile, the hopes of national pair Emma Firyana Saroji-Nurul Alyani Jamil to progress in the women’s pairs event ended after they finished fifth in their group.
The national duo managed only one win from the five matches they contested in the event.
