KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 9 (Bernama) -- A tsunami alert has been issued for Iwate Prefecture after strong earthquake with magnitude of 6.7 struck off the Sanriku coast in northeastern Japan at around 5.03 pm (local time) Sunday, Kyodo News reported.
According to the Japan Meteorological Agency (JMA), the quake, with a depth of about 10 kilometres, registered a seismic intensity of 4 on Japan’s seven-point scale in parts of the region.
Kyodo news also reported the Tohoku Shinkansen operation has been partly halted due to power outage after quake.
Japanese authorities are continuing to monitoring the situation.
