Three Dead, Three Injured In Container Fire Aboard Vessel At PTP

ISKANDAR PUTERI, Nov 11 (Bernama) -- Three crew members were killed and three others injured in a container fire aboard a vessel at the Port of Tanjung Pelepas (PTP) last Friday (Nov 7).

The Johor Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) said it received an emergency call at 12.23 pm, and a team from the Iskandar Puteri Fire and Rescue Station arrived at the scene at 12.40 pm.

The fire broke out during unloading work in the under-hatch area of Block 5 of the vessel.

The victims who died were a 59-year-old Malaysian man, a Filipino man in his 40s, and a British man also in his 40s.

The three injured were a 26-year-old Malaysian man and two Filipino men in their 40s.

“All the injured were taken to Gleneagles Hospital Iskandar Puteri by the PTP ambulance,” Johor JBPM said in a statement.

Initial firefighting was carried out by the PTP Fire and Rescue team using two tugboats, supported by unloading operations at Quay 118.

Nine firefighters, a Fire Rescue Tender (FRT), and a utility vehicle were deployed for the operation.
