KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 14 (Bernama) -- The National Audit Department (NAD) will continue to spearhead the Knowledge Sharing Committee (KSC) of the ASEAN Supreme Audit Institutions (ASEANSAI) for the next two years.

The NAD said in a statement that it was unanimously reappointed for the 2026-2027 term at the eighth ASEANSAI Summit held in Singapore on Nov 12-13.

Auditor-General Datuk Seri Wan Suraya Wan Mohd Radzi represented Malaysia at the summit, which brought together all auditors-general from ASEAN member countries, including Timor-Leste for the first time, to discuss strategic regional direction and cooperation in the field of public-sector auditing.

"This achievement reflects the recognition of the NAD's leadership in strengthening a culture of knowledge sharing, expanding innovation and enhancing the development of professional capacity among the region's Supreme Audit Institutions (SAIs),” it added.

The NAD said that during the 2023-2025 period, Malaysia successfully implemented various ASEANSAI KSC initiatives and activities, including the development of the ASEANSAI Fundamental Audit Guidelines on Construction Projects; the 4th ASEANSAI KSC Biennial Meeting 2024 in Kuala Lumpur on July 24-26; and the Knowledge Sharing Workshop on Public Debt Audit in Manila on Aug 26-28, 2025.

The 2025 ASEAN Auditors Conference, held for the first time in Putrajaya on May 27-28, is also one of ASEANSAI KSC's key achievements this year, having gathered 2,629 public- and private-sector auditors from the region and beyond.

Meanwhile, the summit in Singapore also endorsed the KSC Work Plan 2026-2027 presented by Wan Suraya, which focuses on four key areas: public financial management auditing, audit digitalisation, public debt management and auditing the Sustainable Development Goals (SDG).

"The ASEANSAI Strategic Plan 2026-2029 was also approved, with emphasis on innovation, information sharing and capacity development to support stronger public governance.

"From 2025, cooperation has been expanded to include the Working Group on State-Owned Enterprises Audit under ASOSAI (Asian Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions) and the Working Group on Follow-Up Audit under INTOSAI (International Organisation of Supreme Audit Institutions).

"They were also chaired by SAI Malaysia and are one of NAD's agenda to strengthen knowledge sharing,” it added.

Wan Suraya also held bilateral meetings with counterparts from ASEANSAI, China, Sweden and the ASEAN Secretariat throughout the summit, which paved the way to strengthen professional relations, explore strategic collaborations, as well as share insights on best practices in improving efficiency and effectiveness of public-sector auditing in the region.

Overall, Malaysia's participation this time strengthened the NAD's role as a regional leader in auditing, in line with the country's commitment to good governance and sustainable development under the "ASEAN: One Vision, One Identity, One Community” motto.

The next ASEANSAI Summit is scheduled to be held in Thailand in 2027.
