JAKARTA, Nov 15 (Bernama) -- Rescuers in Central Java have recovered seven more bodies from a landslide in Cilacap regency on the third day of search operations, raising the confirmed death toll to 11, the National Disaster Management Agency (BNPB) said on Saturday.
Two additional body parts were identified as belonging to one victim, following earlier recoveries of three bodies over the past two days.
“At least 12 people remain missing as search and rescue (SAR) teams continue amid destroyed homes and blocked roads,” BNPB deputy for emergency management Budi Irawan said in a statement.
Saturday’s operation in Cibeunying village, Majenang district, involved 520 joint SAR personnel, supported by 19 sniffer dogs and 12 excavators.
“The height of the landslide debris varies between two and eight metres, making rapid searches impossible with basic equipment,” Budi added.
Weather remains a key factor, with moderate to heavy rain forecast in Majenang district until Sunday, which could affect search operations that concluded at 4 pm on the third day.
