GEORGE TOWN, Nov 16 (Bernama) -- The BijakWang Challenge 2025 has received recognition from The Malaysia Book of Records (MBOR) in the category of 'Largest Financial Literacy Quiz Challenge' after recording the participation of 4,891 participants within one hour through the digital platforms TikTok LIVE and the interactive quiz site Kahoot!.
The BijakWang Challenge 2025 is a financial literacy initiative organised by mySalam in conjunction with the Penang Financial Literacy Carnival (KCK) which took place over three days starting last Friday in Bayan Lepas.
The certificate was presented by MBOR officer Megat Faris Hussein Megat Muzaffar Shah to the Chief Executive Officer of Great Eastern Takaful, Shahrul Azlan Shahriman, and witnessed by the Deputy Governor of Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM), Adnan Zaylani Mohamad Zahid.
Also present to witness the historic moment were the Executive Officer of the Malaysian Takaful Association, Mohd Radzuan Mohamed, the Head of the mySalam Scheme, Syuhaib Ithnin, and the Public Policy Manager of TikTok Malaysia, Mohd Aliffadhli Zakaria.
This is the second recognition received after setting the record for "Longest Non-Stop Financial Literacy Live Broadcast" in conjunction with the same carnival in Tawau last July.
Syuhaib said that mySalam, the national takaful protection scheme for the B40 community, which is fully managed by Great Eastern Takaful Berhad (GETB), is implementing its financial literacy programme using a large-scale digital approach for the first time, combining gamification and live broadcasts. It targets youth, university students, and the general public.
"Today's youth are more exposed to digital content, so we chose the gamification approach to attract the participation of this group, making financial learning relevant to their lifestyle.
"Interactive platforms like Kahoot! and TikTok live streams can not only attract attention but also increase the participation rate on a large scale. This approach allows us to deliver financial messages in a way that is more fun, interactive, and easy to understand compared to tedious conventional methods," he said at a press conference here today.
Syuhaib described the recognition as proof of the approach's effectiveness in making financial literacy more inclusive and accessible to the community across the country.
The implementation of the BijakWang Challenge 2025 was strengthened through strategic collaboration with Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM), Universiti Islam Pahang Sultan Ahmad Shah (UnIPSAS), Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM), International Islamic University Malaysia (UIAM), Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM), Universiti Kuala Lumpur (UniKL), Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT), Sarawak International Advanced Technology College (iCATS), Kota Bharu Polytechnic, and technical schools.
"This challenge, participated by students aged 16 and above and educators, not only expands the reach of financial literacy but also fosters the practice of prudent financial management among the younger generation who are about to enter the workforce and embark on independent lives," he said.
He informed that the nine best participants in the challenge were selected to receive a total prize money of RM30,000, based on the quiz results. The first place was won by property consultant Muhammad Safwan Awang Puteh, 32, from Baling, Kedah, who took home RM5,000, while the special prize for the highest participation, RM3,000, was awarded to USM.
In addition, Syuhaib explained that as a long-term plan, mySalam has also established the BijakWang Community via the WhatsApp application, which currently has over 2,000 members.
He stated that it functions as a platform for sharing financial tips, providing information about social protection such as mySalam and Perlindungan Tenang, and disseminating announcements about activities and continuous learning opportunities.
Since its introduction in 2019, mySalam has assisted 1.8 million members, with the total amount of claims paid reaching RM1.311 billion as of last October 31.
Referring to the Budget 2026 announcement, the scheme will be extended until December 2026 as part of the government's ongoing commitment to providing financial protection for the low-income population.
Meanwhile, Muhammad Safwan said that the BijakWang Challenge 2025 made him read and revise more diligently, just like in his school days, and he admitted that many things about finance are easy to understand when learned through a fun, interactive method.
