LABUAN, Nov 16 (Bernama) -- The Labuan Special Olympics female football team clinched second place in the Southeast Asia Female Football Competition held in Bandung, Indonesia, marking a proud achievement for Malaysia at the regional stage.

The tournament, organised by Special Olympics Asia Pacific, took place at the Persib Bandung Sidolig Stadium from Nov 10 to 15 and featured strong participation from five countries, Malaysia, the Philippines, Bangladesh, Indonesia, and Thailand.

Special Olympics Labuan chairlady Jocelyn Yeo said Labuan players showcased exceptional teamwork and determination throughout the tournament, earning praise from coaches and supporters alike as they battled their way to the final before securing a commendable runner-up position.

“The competition served as a key platform for promoting inclusivity, regional camaraderie, and competitive spirit among female athletes with intellectual disabilities, highlighting the growing strength of Special Olympics programmes across Southeast Asia.

“Officials from Special Olympics Malaysia congratulated the Labuan contingent and expressed hope that the achievement would inspire more young players from the Federal Territory to participate in future international events,” she told Bernama today.

She said the team arrived in Labuan today, with a small welcome reception to honour their achievement.
