KOTA BHARU,  Nov 17  (Bernama) -- Senior citizens are expected to make up about 14 per cent of Malaysia’s population by 2048, said Public Service Department (PSD) Pension Division Director Datuk Mohd Shahrim Hussin.

He said the government has therefore launched the National Ageing Blueprint 2025–2045, which adopts a lifelong approach to prepare the country for the challenges of an ageing society.

“The blueprint focuses on six key areas—economy, employment, education, social protection, health and long-term care—which serve as a guide for JPA in its ongoing efforts to enhance the service delivery system for retirees.

“Whether through the digitalisation of the pension process, data strengthening or fostering inter-agency collaboration, the PSD’s goal is to ensure that every pensioner receives benefits quickly and efficiently, in line with our aspiration to be a Leader of Reform and a Driver of Change,” he said.

He said this in his speech at the MyPesara 2025 Awards ceremony in conjunction with the MyPesara Carnival here.

The event was also attended by Retirement Fund Incorporated (KWAP) chief executive officer Datuk Nik Amlizan Mohamed.

The carnival, held for three days starting last Friday, featured various activities that promoted active ageing, financial empowerment and community well-being, in line with the MADANI principle of People-Centred Service.

Commenting on the MyPesara Awards Ceremony and the MyPesara Carnival, Mohd Shahrim said the initiative reflects PSD’s commitment to engaging the pensioner community more holistically through recognition, support, and community involvement.

Meanwhile, at the MyPesara Awards 2025,  Min House Camp founder Wan Noriah Wan Ramli, 69, was named the grand winner. She took home RM50,000 in cash.

Wan Noriah was also named the winner for the Social and Community Services Category, while The Plot founder, Dr Abas Mazni Othman, won the Entrepreneurship category, and Prof Emeritus Dr Mohamad Mokhtar Abu Hassan was recognised in the Education Category. They took home RM10,000 in cash each.

Wan Noriah said the prize money would be used to upgrade facilities for persons with disabilities (PwDs) at Min House Camp, a community centre for the disabled and an ecotourism hub in Kelantan.

“To date, around 180 PwDs have received training services at Min House Camp. The community centre, established in 2010, was initially developed using my pension funds from my time as an Assistant Registrar at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM).

“Today, the centre serves as a national model for environmentally based, inclusive community development, integrating income-generating initiatives with environmental conservation, especially for the disabled.

“It has also received grant support from several ministries and government agencies, including the Ministry of Tourism and the Ministry of Science and Innovation,” she said.
