IPOH, Nov 17 (Bernama) -- Police have arrested two men suspected of stealing cables at the Jalan Kamunting–Batu Kurau traffic junction near Taiping Vocational College yesterday.
Taiping police chief ACP Mohamad Nasir Ismail said the suspects, aged 24 and 34, were picked up by the district Criminal Investigation Department after a video of the incident went viral on social media.
He said both men had prior criminal records, totalling 10 and one, respectively, mostly linked to cable theft cases in the district.
Police also seized a black Mitsubishi Triton believed to have been used in the theft, with the suspects remanded for four days under Section 379 of the Penal Code.
“I urge the public to continue sharing information with the police to enable swift action and help maintain public safety and order,” he said.
Earlier, a teenager’s quick tip-off enabled police to arrest four men caught in the act of prying open a cable manhole in an attempted theft at the same location on Nov 14.
