ARAU, Nov 22 (Bernama) -- The Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, said success does not rest solely on academic qualifications, but on an individual’s ability to adapt to change and challenges in an increasingly borderless world.

“The knowledge gained at UniMAP (Universiti Malaysia Perlis) must be harnessed to build a better future - for personal growth, the industry, the country and humanity as a whole,” he said at the UniMAP’s 20th Convocation Ceremony here today.

The Raja Puan Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Dr Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil, who is also UniMAP’s Pro-Chancellor, was also present.

Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra, who is also UniMAP’s Chancellor, said university graduates must exemplify knowledgeable, disciplined and cultured Malaysians who are capable of competing on the global stage without abandoning Eastern customs and values.

“Progress should never come at the expense of our national values. In pursuing global aspirations, our language, culture and identity must continue to be safeguarded,” he said.

His Royal Highness said successful graduates are those who can connect theory with reality and apply their knowledge for the benefit of society.

“Expertise must be harnessed to drive innovation, uphold human values and enhance universal well-being. That is the true essence of intellectuals with a global outlook,” he said.

The Raja Muda of Perlis said the country needs scholars who not only conduct theoretical research in laboratories but are also able to think strategically and influence policy, society and industry through findings that can bring meaningful reforms to the global community.

Earlier, His Royal Highness’s daughter, Hajah Sharifah Khatreena Nuraniah Jamalullail, was proclaimed Pro-Chancellor of UniMAP at the Session One of the convocation ceremony.

Also during the session, former Minister of International Trade and Industry, who previously also served as Minister of Higher Education, Datuk Seri Mustapa Mohamed, was conferred an Honorary Doctorate in Management.

In addition, the Raja Muda of Perlis conferred the Royal Education Award and the Chancellor’s Gold Medal Award on two Bachelor of Electrical Engineering with Honours graduates, namely Nik Nuraina Fadhilah Nik Muhammad Nasir and Syafiqah Nabihah Massuwan, respectively.

A total of 3,568 UniMAP graduates will receive their degrees and diplomas at the university’s 20th Convocation Ceremony, held from today until Nov 25 across eight sessions at the Dewan Tuanku Canselor.
