KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 26 (Bernama) -- The Football Association of Malaysia (FAM) strongly condemns any form of violence, intimidation or threats against any individual, including journalists who play an important role in the country’s sports ecosystem.

FAM acting president Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mahadi stressed that any aggressive actions or attempts to obstruct journalists from carrying out their professional duties are completely unacceptable and do not reflect the spirit of sportsmanship and the values of integrity championed by the national governing body.

“FAM hopes the authorities will carry out a comprehensive investigation to identify those responsible and ensure justice is served.

“At the same time, FAM will continue to work closely with media practitioners, as well as ensure a safe, professional and respectful space is created between all parties involved in the national sports industry,” he said in a statement today.

Mohd Yusoff said this when commenting on the assault case involving sportswriter and National Press Club (NPC) deputy president Haresh Deol in Bangsar here yesterday.

Haresh, who is also the co-founder of news portal TwentyTwo13, posted on X yesterday that he was attacked by two men while heading to his car, while another individual recorded the incident using a mobile phone.

Brickfields police chief ACP Hoo Chang Hook, in a statement yesterday, said police are tracking down three men believed to be involved in the incident, which occurred on Jalan Maarof, near the parking lot of a shopping mall, when Haresh was walking on the sidewalk towards Jalan Telawi.
