LABUAN, Nov 26 (Bernama) -- The long-awaited upgrading of the Labuan roll-on/roll-off (Ro-Ro) ferry terminal is set to finally take off next year, according to Labuan Marine Department director Alimuddin Amirudin.

He said the tender process for the RM22 million project had been completed last month, and the evaluation and appointment of a qualified contractor is now in its final stage.

“The selection process is being finalised by the Public Works Department (JKR). Once the contractor is appointed, several crucial documents and approvals will be processed immediately. Certainly, the upgrading project will be implemented next year,” he told Bernama today.

He said the upgrade is expected to include structural improvements, enhanced passenger facilities, better traffic management systems and safer embarkation and disembarkation lanes.

Alimuddin said the department is committed to ensuring timely implementation once the project officially kicks off, adding that the upgraded terminal would significantly boost travel efficiency and support Labuan’s economic activities.

In May last year, Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim announced a RM22 million allocation to upgrade the Labuan Ro-Ro Ferry Terminal to address congestion issues as well as to improve facilities and operational efficiency.
