JOHOR BAHRU, 26 Nov (Bernama) -- The Immigration Department (JIM) has detained 74 foreign nationals during raids under Operation Sapu at 10 houses in Taman Senai Baru here last night.
Johor Immigration Director, Datuk Mohd Rusdi Mohd Darus, said those nabbed comprised 53 men and 21 women from Indonesia, Myanmar, and Bangladesh, aged between two months and 47 years.
He said the raid, involving 40 officers and enforcement personnel at 12.45 am, was carried out following continuous intelligence and monitoring of the two-storey homes in the area.
"During the operation, some attempted to flee or hide, but were successfully apprehended," he said in a statement today.
Mohd Rusdi added that all those detained are suspected of committing offences under the Immigration Act 1959/63 and were sent to the Setia Tropika Immigration Depot for further investigation.
