PUTRAJAYA, Dec 2 (Bernama) -- Immigration officers detained 17 foreign nationals during a raid at Klang Sentral in Selangor last night, suspected of committing offences under the Immigration Act and its regulations.
Immigration director-general Datuk Zakaria Shaaban said the detainees, aged 21 to 32, consisted of eight Bangladeshi men and nine Vietnamese women.
The raid, conducted at 10.25 pm, involved checks on hundreds of foreigners in the area as part of an enforcement operation.
The department had targeted a three-storey shoplot believed to be operating as a prostitution premises run by foreign workers, he said.
“The raid was carried out based on public complaints and two weeks of intelligence gathering by the Immigration Department,” he said in a statement today, adding that offences identified included overstaying and lacking valid travel documents.
He said investigations found the operation was managed by a Bangladeshi ‘captain’ under a local man known as ‘Kevin’, with women earning RM400 to RM600 a day, adding that various sex-related items were also seized.
All detainees are now held at the Immigration Detention Depot in Putrajaya for further action.
