GEORGE TOWN, Dec 2 (Bernama) -- Self-discipline, systematic time management, and consistent commitment served as recipes for Batu Uban Assemblyman A. Kumaresan to successfully complete his Master of Public Administration (MPA) degree at Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM) in just one year.
Despite carrying the responsibility of a people's representative, Kumaresan, 38, managed to maintain a class attendance rate exceeding 85 percent, with lectures scheduled four times a week from 6 pm to 9 pm.
Admitting that the study process was challenging, he said the demands of his official duties never became an excuse to postpone his academic commitment, instead ensuring he attended every class session without fail.
"Even though my official schedule is always packed, I set a goal to complete my studies within one year, and my strategy included prioritising and arranging my work schedule and official commitments so as not to clash with study sessions.
"I also adopted an early assignment preparation approach, besides utilising the free time between meetings to read, make notes, and do brief reviews," he said in a statement issued by USM after the 63rd USM convocation here tonight.
Kumaresan, who has been the Batu Uban Assemblyman since 2018, also expressed his appreciation to the USM academic staff for their support and guidance throughout his studies at the university.
The Central Leadership Council Member of Keadilan said his commitment to continuously strengthen his knowledge in administration and public policy aspects will not stop, as knowledge empowers leaders to make more accountable and community-oriented decisions.
He is now also planning to pursue a Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), in line with his commitment to professional development and enhancing leadership capacity.
The USM convocation, which concluded today after running since Nov 25, saw 9,347 graduates receive their scrolls, including 865 (PhD), 3,501 (Master’s), 4,934 (Bachelor’s), 47 (Nursing Diploma), and one Honorary Degree recipient.
