Five Main Universities Picked as Host Venues For AUG 2026 From Dec 10-20

KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 4 (Bernama) -- The ASEAN University Games (AUG) 2026 will take place from Dec 10 to 20, 2026.

The Ministry of Higher Education, in a statement today, announced that five main universities have been selected as competition venues: Universiti Teknologi MARA (UiTM) Shah Alam, Universiti Malaya (UM), Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM), Universiti Pertahanan Nasional Malaysia (UPNM), and Universiti Kebangsaan Malaysia (UKM).

"A total of 25 types of sports and games have been listed to be contested at various selected university venues and sports centres.

"Among the focus sports include football, athletics, swimming, and hockey," the statement read.

Other sports include silat, taekwondo, karate, judo, chess, archery, sepak takraw, ten-pin bowling, and squash.

AUG is the main university-level sports event for ASEAN countries, which was first introduced in 1981 in Chiang Mai, Thailand.

The Malaysian contingent has emerged as the overall champion twice, in Kuala Lumpur in 2008 and Vientiane, Laos, in the 2012 edition.
