KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 6 (Bernama) -- The police are investigating allegations of death threats made on social media yesterday against a lawyer relating to a case he is representing regarding the shooting of three individuals in Melaka on Nov 24.

Petaling Jaya district police chief ACP Shamsudin Mamat said the lawyer lodged a report at 5.16 pm yesterday after he read a comment made by an unknown individual on a social media platform at his office in Petaling Jaya.

“The comment contained elements of a death threat believed to be linked to a case he was representing,” he said in a statement today, adding that the lawyer has had his statement recorded last night and that the case is being investigated under Section 507 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

He also advised the public to refrain from speculation or spreading unverified information that could cause confusion.

Three men, 24 to 29, were killed in a shooting at 4.30 am, Nov 24 after one of them slashed a police corporal with a machete at an oil palm plantation in Durian Tunggal, while reportedly on their way to commit a robbery.

On Dec 4, Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department director Datuk M Kumar announced that a taskforce had been set up to look into claims made by family members of the three men who were dissatisfied with the actions of the police, as they rejected claims that the men had acted aggressively and attacked the corporal, who sustained severe injuries to his left arm.
