CHUKAI, Dec 7 (Bernama) -- A man who went missing after falling into Sungai Kemaman while inspecting his boat at the Geliga Che Akob Jetty last Friday night was found drowned this morning.
Kemaman police chief Supt Mohd Razi Rosli said the body of Muhammad Anuar Syurkimie Mahmmod, 31, was discovered floating about 500 metres from where he was believed to have fallen at 9.05 am.
“Today’s operation began at 7 am and involved surface searches using several boats within a one-kilometre radius from the incident site towards Kuala Kemaman,” he said when contacted.
The body was later taken to the On-Scene Control Post for identification before being sent to the Kemaman Hospital Forensic Unit for a post-mortem.
The victim is believed to have slipped from the jetty during a high tide at about 10 pm last Friday. The emergency call was received by the Fire and Rescue Department at 2.26 pm yesterday.
Meanwhile, Muhammad Anuar Syurkimie’s mother, Norihan Mohd Noor, 58, said she accepted the loss of her eldest son, who had supported the family since his father died in 2021.
“Even though he worked as a labourer, he provided for the family,” she said, adding that he also cared for his four younger brothers, aged 21 to 28.
She said they last met after Friday prayers, when she asked him to deliver necessities and medicine to his grandmother’s house in Kampung Sungai Ular.
