KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 7 (Bernama) -- The Department of Statistics Malaysia (DOSM) today launched TaniStats 2.0, an enhanced integrated digital agriculture statistics gateway building on the initial version introduced in May 2025, as part of the government’s efforts to strengthen the digital transformation agenda of data-driven public service delivery.
The launch was officiated by Chief Secretary to the Government Tan Sri Shamsul Azri Abu Bakar during the Rancakkan MADANI Bersama Malaysiaku Programme and the 2025 National Public Service Reform Convention in Putrajaya.
In a statement, DOSM said TaniStats 2.0 was developed internally as a smart integrated platform that consolidates various national agricultural data sources, including findings from the 2024 Agricultural Census, administrative data from agencies, agrifood prices, food security indicators and supply chain information under a single digital ecosystem.
“The development of TaniStats 2.0 represents a cornerstone in the transformation of the country’s agricultural data management, supporting the third pillar of the Malaysia MADANI concept, namely ‘Daya Cipta’, which emphasises innovation, renewal and human capital empowerment to shift society from being mere users to one that actively creates and contributes to national progress.
“TaniStats 2.0 also supports the Public Sector Reform agenda, particularly in strengthening the digitalisation of government services, inter-agency data integration and more modern and responsive data governance, in line with the government’s efforts to establish a more integrated, efficient and data-driven public service ecosystem with near real-time capabilities,” it said.
According to the department, TaniStats 2.0 consolidates upstream and downstream data, including agricultural product value chains from farm to consumer for selected commodities, and features food security statistics covering supply, consumption and food balance.
“TaniStats 2.0 features various key enhancements that strengthen the platform’s function as the national agricultural data hub. Through the CitraTani Module – Agricultural Analytics, users can examine production trends, productivity levels, input support and detailed information on subsectors by area.
“The system is also equipped with interactive and geospatial visualisations, presenting digital maps to monitor production zones, critical areas and food security risks more comprehensively,” it said.
TaniStats 2.0 is further strengthened with AgroBot, an intelligent assistant powered by generative artificial intelligence to help users navigate the portal, obtain instant explanations and conduct preliminary analysis more efficiently.
Meanwhile, DOSM recorded a historic achievement as Malaysia for the first time ranked first globally in the 2024/25 Open Data Inventory (ODIN) report released by Open Data Watch (ODW), outperforming 197 other countries.
“This achievement marks a significant leap from the 67th position in the ODIN 2022/23 assessment. OpenDOSM NextGen serves as a medium that provides data catalogues and visualisations to facilitate users in analysing various datasets and is accessible via the portal https://open.dosm.gov.my
