IPOH, Dec 7 (Bernama) -- Thirty motorcycles were impounded today for various traffic offences in an integrated operation dubbed Ops Samseng Jalanan at Jalan Pasir Puteh near Station 18 here.
Perak police chief Datuk Noor Hisam Nordin said the operation, conducted from midnight to 12 pm, involved personnel from the State Contingent’s Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT), the Road Transport Department (JPJ), the Department of Environment (DOE) and the National Anti-Drugs Agency.
He said a local man was also arrested for riding his motorcycle recklessly and dangerously under Section 42(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
“During the same operation, a total of 158 traffic summonses, 82 JPJ summonses and notices, and 11 DOE compounds and notices were issued for various offences.
“A total of 115 motorcycles and 82 cars were stopped, and 335 individuals aged between 15 and 42 were checked,” he said in a statement today.
Noor Hisam said that 11 locals, including a 16-year-old boy, had been arrested for testing positive for drugs and were to be investigated under Section 3(1) of the Drug Dependents (Treatment and Rehabilitation) Act 1983 (Amendment 1998).
He said the Perak Contingent Police’s JSPT would continue conducting integrated operations periodically to strengthen law enforcement against street thugs in the state.
“This is part of the State Contingent Police’s efforts to reduce road accidents and curb street crime in Perak,” he said.
