KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 12 (Bernama) -- Fuzhou has been named one of China’s "Happiest Cities" at the 2025 Happy Cities Forum held in Chengdu, Sichuan Province.

The annual survey and selection campaign—organised by Xinhua News Agency’s Oriental Outlook and now in its 19th year—is regarded as one of the country’s most influential urban studies.

Themed "Practising the People-Centred City Concept to Create a Better and Happier Life", this year’s campaign began in August with 220 nominated cities and districts nationwide. After comprehensive evaluations, the 2025 list was officially released, with Fuzhou among the top honourees.

Known as the "Blessed State" and "Cosy City of Banyan Trees", Fuzhou has in recent years advanced its "3820" Strategic Initiative (an outline of Fuzhou's social and economic development goals in three-, eight- and 20-year plans), accelerating its transformation into a modern international city. By 2024, its economic output ranked eighth among China’s provincial capitals.

According to a statement, Fuzhou’s success is due to its cultural heritage, coastal beauty, business-friendly environment, people-centred services, and leisurely lifestyle.

Together, these elements define the essence of Fuzhou’s happiness—rooted in its memorable scenery, strengthened by its daily vitality, and sustained by its dynamism. It is a city that invites visitors to linger—and inspires them to return.
