KUALA LUMPUR, Dec 15 (Bernama) -- The Scout movement needs to be elevated as a platform for non-formal education in producing responsible leaders and individuals, going beyond its role as a uniformed organisation.

Acting National Chief Commissioner Dr. Mohammed Mukhyuddin Sarwani said that in facing current challenges, the movement's role in shaping character, personality, and human values is becoming increasingly relevant.

"Scouting is not just a uniformed organisation, but a non-formal educational movement that produces future leaders, responsible citizens, and individuals who serve with sincerity," he said.

He said this while speaking at the opening ceremony of the KL Scouts 2025 Appreciation Event of the Malaysian Scout Federation, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur here tonight.

Also present were Deputy National Chief Scout Commissioner Mohd Hilmi Abu Bakar, Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur Scout Association chief commissioner Zamri Saiman, and the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur Scout Council chairman Ahmad Shamsul Baharin Mohd Hanafiah.

The event also saw a total of 237 people receiving the Wangsa Wilayah Certificate, which is the commendation certificate from the Chief Scout of the Federal Territory of Kuala Lumpur awarded to leaders and individuals who have contributed significantly to the scouting movement in the state.

Mohammed Mukhyuddin said the award is not just a symbol of respect, but a recognition of continuous commitment, loyalty and service to the Scout movement.

"I hope this award will be a source of encouragement for the recipients to continue moving forward, leading with wisdom, and strengthening the values of scouting within the community, especially among the younger generation," he added.
