BANGKOK, Dec 18 (Bernama) -- The national women’s hockey squad moved a step closer to defending their SEA Games gold medal for a ninth consecutive time after thrashing Singapore 9-0 in the semi-final of the 2025 edition in Chonburi today.
In the match at the Thailand National Sports University, the Malaysian Tigress wasted no time in opening the scoring when Hanis Nadiah Onn converted a penalty corner in the second minute, followed by Nurmaizatul Hanim Syafi Shiek Fuad’s field goal in the sixth minute.
Malaysia continued to widen the gap as Nuramirah Shakirah Zulkifli struck twice via a penalty stroke (10th minute) and a field goal a minute later.
The national side’s dominance continued as Nur Afiqah Syahzani Azhar added the fifth goal in the 19th minute before Siti Zulaikha Husain piled on the misery for the opponents in the 37th minute.
Anith Humaira Baharudin was also on target with two goals from penalty corners in the 48th and 59th minutes, while Siti Nur Atika Shaikh Maznan netted a field goal in the 55th minute.
The emphatic victory confirmed the Malaysian Tigress’ place in the final against Indonesia tomorrow.
Indonesia advanced to the final after denying Thailand in a 2-0 penalty shoot-out following a scoreless draw.
Speaking after the match, head coach Mohd Nasihin Nubli Ibrahim said the win had injected confidence into his players in their bid to maintain Malaysia’s dominance in the women’s field hockey event.
The Thailand 2025 SEA Games are being held from Dec 9 to 20 across two regions - Bangkok and Chonburi.
