NAKHON PATHOM, Dec 20 (Bernama) -- Youth and Sports Minister Dr Mohammed Taufiq Johari described the men’s sepak takraw regu gold medal win as good way to end Malaysia’s proud showing at the 2025 SEA Games here.
The win was not only the highlight of the last day of the biennial Games, but also showed the great contributions of the sepak takraw team to the overall performance of the national contingent, he added.
“Today we witnessed a close that celebrates our country, a really proud way to finish the campaign.
“Our sepak takraw team managed to win the gold for the men’s (regu) event, while the women’s team gave us a bronze,” he told reporters after the medal presentation ceremony at Nakhon Pathom Gymnasium Stadium here today, where he presented the medals to the national men’s team.
The gold medal also added to the overall medal tally, was the highest for Malaysia in the Games outside of Kuala Lumpur, exceeding the haul of the 2007 Games in Korat, Thailand.
Dr Mohammed Taufiq also conveyed his appreciation to the athletes, coaches and team officials for their commitment and fighting spirit.
Today’s gold medal win was Malaysia’s first since 2017 in Kuala Lumpur and was Malaysia’s last and 57th gold medal in this year’s Games.
