SEREMBAN, Dec 24 (Bernama) -- Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC) Malaysia today distributed Back-to-School Packs to 300 pupils from 17 schools around FELDA Pasir Besar, Gemas, to help ease the burden on low-income families ahead of the new school term.

RMHC Malaysia president Datuk Azmir Jaafar, who is also McDonald’s Malaysia managing director and local operating partner, said the 10th edition of the programme reflected RMHC Malaysia’s continued commitment to supporting education for underprivileged children.

Implemented with the support of Yayasan Jaafar Ahmad through contributions totalling RM50,000, he said the programme further strengthens RMHC Malaysia’s collaboration with strategic partners to assist children in need.

“This programme is close to my heart as I am also a FELDA settler’s child and understand the pressure parents face at the start of the school year. In line with RMHC Malaysia’s education pillar, it aims to ease the burden on low-income families, especially children entering school for the first time.

“In FELDA Pasir Besar, the programme has been expanded to 17 schools, allowing us to reach more families in need,” he said in a statement.

Azmir said since its introduction in 2017, the programme has benefited nearly 200,000 students nationwide, with total contributions exceeding RM12 million.

He added that RMHC Malaysia aims to distribute 5,000 Back-to-School Packs ahead of the 2026 school session, reflecting the community’s concern for children’s education and future.

In support of the initiative, Yayasan Jaafar Ahmad, founded by Azmir and his family, allocated 350 Back-to-School Packs for children in Tampin, with 50 packs distributed at Sekolah Kebangsaan Gemas in conjunction with the opening of the McDonald’s Gemas restaurant, and 300 packs presented to pupils around FELDA Pasir Besar.

Meanwhile, foundation adviser Zainuddin Jaafar said the assistance not only helps ease parents’ financial burden but also boosts the morale of children preparing to begin the new school session.

“As a Negeri Sembilan native, I am honoured to be able to contribute through Yayasan Jaafar Ahmad in collaboration with RMHC Malaysia to help children in this state start the school year with confidence.

“I hope this effort will motivate them to achieve their aspirations and one day give back to their families and communities in their home state,” he said.

Each Back-to-School Pack contains a school bag, uniform, shoes and stationery set.
