JOHOR BAHRU, Dec 27 (Bernama) -- Police have confirmed that two men were killed and three others seriously injured in a three-vehicle collision at Km45.6 of the Senai-Desaru Expressway this morning.

Seri Alam police chief ACP Mohd Sohaimi Ishak said authorities received information about the accident involving a Proton Wira, a Proton Saga, and a Perodua Myvi at approximately 5.35 am.

He said the accident is believed to have occurred when the Proton Wira, driven by a 19-year-old man, entered the oncoming lane and collided with the Proton Saga, driven by a 21-year-old man.

"The impact caused both vehicles to spin before coming to a stop in the left and right lanes. A Perodua Myvi, driven by a 23-year-old woman who was behind the Proton Saga, was unable to avoid the car and subsequently struck the Proton Wira,” he explained.

"The drivers of the Proton Wira and the Proton Saga sustained serious head injuries and were pronounced dead at the scene," he said in a statement today.

Mohd Sohaimi added that three passengers from the Proton Wira and the driver of the Perodua Myvi sustained serious injuries, while a passenger in the Myvi had minor injuries.

"All the injured victims are currently receiving treatment at the Sultan Ismail Hospital here. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987," he said.

He advised the public to always obey traffic regulations and drive responsibly. Anyone with information on the accident is urged to contact the police at 07-386 4222.

Earlier, in a separate statement, Pasir Gudang Fire and Rescue Station operations commander PBK I Nazarudin Yusof said the deceased victims who were trapped in the wreckage had been extricated and handed over to the police and the Ministry of Health.

He also confirmed that a 14-year-old girl was found unconscious at the scene.
