SEREMBAN, Dec 28 (Bernama) -- The man arrested in connection with an explosion in Desa Palma, Nilai, has been remanded for a week until Jan 3.

Negeri Sembilan police chief Datuk Alzafny Ahmad said the remand order against the 62-year-old man was issued by Senior Assistant Registrar Siti Nur Ain Ariffin at Tuanku Ja’afar Hospital here, where he was receiving treatment for his injuries.

“The remand will facilitate further investigations under Sections 307 and 435 of the Penal Code, as well as Section 4 of the Corrosive and Explosive Substances and Offensive Weapons Act 1958,” he said in a statement here today.

Alzafny previously said that the man, who suffered burns on his face, body, hands and feet, was arrested in the Batang Benar area, Nilai, at 4.15 pm yesterday, with a motorcycle believed to have been used by him also seized.

On Friday, he said the suspect, known as ‘Ayang’, who was involved in the incident, was believed to possess technical knowledge and specific skills in making explosive materials, based on the discovery of devices and equipment seized at the man’s rented house.

On Dec 22, Alzafny was reported as saying that police found objects suspected to be improvised explosive devices following the explosion incident in the Desa Palma area after receiving a public report stating that an object had exploded and nails were scattered in the area at 7.08 am.
