IPOH, Jan 1 (Bernama) -- Perak Mufti Datuk Seri Wan Zahidi Wan Teh concluded his tenure as Perak Mufti yesterday, having held the post since August 2022.

In a Facebook post, the Perak State Mufti Department said a farewell ceremony involving its staff members was held to mark his last day of service.

Wan Zahidi, in his farewell speech, described work in the field of fatwa (Islamic decree) as part of the broader sphere of dakwah (Islamic propagation).

“Rest assured, it will take us further,’ he said, as quoted in the Facebook post.

Meanwhile, Perak deputy mufti Datuk Zamri Hashim, in his speech, expressed appreciation for Wan Zahidi’s contributions and leadership in steering the state’s fatwa institution.

Wan Zahidi was appointed as Perak Mufti on Aug 1, 2022, after receiving the consent of the Sultan of Perak, Sultan Nazrin Shah.

He took over from the late Tan Sri Harussani Zakaria, who passed away at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital here on May 30, 2021, while receiving treatment for COVID-19.

Wan Zahidi, who hails from Gerik, is a prominent Islamic thinker with notable contributions in academia, research, education and human capital development.
