Man Sentenced To Five Years' Jail, One Lash For Possessing Kerambit

KOTA BHARU, Jan 5 (Bernama) -- A man was sentenced to five years’ jail with one lash of the whip by the Sessions Court here today after pleading guilty to possessing a dangerous weapon without permission.

Judge Nik Habri Mohamad pronounced the sentence on Mohd Nazrulhisam Mohd Nordin, 44, for owning a brown coloured kerambit measuring 12 centimetres by the side of Jalan Kampung Telong, Bachok at 5.20 pm, Dec 29 last year.

He was charged under Section 6(1) of the Corrosive Substances, Explosives and Dangerous Weapons Act 1958.

Deputy public prosecutor Nur Syafiqah Mohamad requested a sentence commensurate to the crime as a lesson to the accused, while Mohd Nazrulhisam, who was unrepresented, pleaded for a ligher sentence as he had to care for three school-going children and was still living with his parents.
