KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 9 (Bernama) -- Yayasan Basmi Kemiskinan (YBK) aims to assist 400 families of hardcore poor, poor and asnaf nationwide through Program Sinar Kasih Ramadan (SKR), which is now in its 18th year of implementation.
Its chairman, Datuk Zainal Abidin Sakom said the annual programme will be implemented ahead of Ramadan, which is expected to begin on Feb 19, and will involve cash assistance and basic necessities, sourced from contributions from individuals, organisations and strategic partners.
Since its launch in 2008 until last year (2025), the programme has benefitted 4,071 families with cumulative cash contributions reaching RM1.5 million, reflecting the foundation's ongoing commitment to supporting vulnerable groups.
“For 2026, YBK aims to assist 400 hardcore poor, poor and asnaf families, who will receive cash donations for breaking of fast and sahur expenses, in addition to goods donations from corporate sponsors," he said at a press conference here today.
He said the SKR 2026 programme also serves as a platform connecting beneficiaries with contributors, sponsors and relevant agencies, including the Selangor Federal Development Office (ICU), the Department of Social Welfare and the Selangor Zakat Board.
"YBK's role as a facilitator enables beneficiaries to be referred to the most suitable agency according to their needs, while donors can channel their contributions transparently and focused through YBK," he said.
According to Zainal, information on aid recipients is obtained through schools, community leaders, non-governmental organisation (NGO) partners and YBK volunteers, and will undergo a verification process to ensure that only eligible families receive the aid.
YBK also said that reports related to the programme's implementation will be displayed on social media platforms and the foundation's official website as a guarantee of transparency.
