MetMalaysia Issues Tropical Storm Advisory

KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 17 (Bernama) -- The Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) today issued a Tropical Storm Advisory (NOKAEN) which was detected at 5 pm this evening at latitude 14.4 north and longitude 123.8 east about 104 kilometres (km) northeast of Naga City, Philippines.

MetMalaysia's National Weather and Earthquake Operations Centre in a statement announced that the storm was moving northwest at a speed of 20 km per hour (km/h) and had maximum wind speeds of 74 km/h.

The distance of the storm from the nearest town is about 1,126 km northeast of Pitas, Sabah.

According to MetMalaysia, the situation will not have a significant impact on Malaysia.
