KUALA LUMPUR, Jan 18 (Bernama) -- Shaziena Wahid, a member of the popular 1990s girl pop group Freshies, harbours hopes of returning to the recording studio as a solo artiste.

Better known as Ejie, the 52-year-old has yet to make any concrete plan. She said she already has a solo song in hand and is simply waiting for the right time to record and release it.

“I want to release a single, but perhaps not with Freshies. I’ve been keeping this song for quite some time and really want to put it out as a solo artiste. For now, it hasn’t moved forward yet… give me a little time and we’ll see if the opportunity comes,” she told Bernama.

Ejie, who is now active on TikTok, said the platform has opened doors for her to explore other potential avenues, including acting and radio hosting.

“I used to ask myself if I really could do all this. But after joining TikTok, I realised I actually have other talents. People have told me my voice is soft (and suitable for acting or broadcasting), which honestly surprised me,” she said.

Her light-hearted content on TikTok, often featuring a relatable motherly persona speaking casually in a Perak dialect, has received positive feedback from followers, further boosting the Perak-born artiste’s confidence to continue experimenting in the entertainment space.

Ejie said she remains open to suitable offers and that she has the full support of her husband Malcolm Bridges, a British national.

“My husband always tells me to go for it. So I’m keeping my options open and seeing where this journey takes me,” said Ejie, who is currently based in Ipoh, Perak.

Most recently, Ejie, together with fellow Freshies member Noor Hasimah Abu Hassan, better known as Shima, took part in the popular television reality programme ‘Gegar Vaganza 12’ (GV12) and managed to stay in the competition until Week 10.

“Initially, we wanted the entire (Freshies) group to participate in GV12, but Melor is in Australia and Ina has health issues, which is why only the two of us took part,” Ejie said.

Freshies — best known for their energetic songs and dance performances between 1992 and 1996 — also comprises Mazlena Morat (Ina) and Melor Ulong Idris (Melor).
