Three Houses Gutted By Fire In Bukit Mertajam

BUKIT MERTAJAM, Jan 20 (Bernama) -- Three single-storey terrace houses in Taman Guar Perahu here were destroyed by fire early this morning, which also damaged four vehicles.

Penang Fire and Rescue Department assistant director of operations John Sagun Francis said the department received an emergency call at 3.29 am and dispatched fire engines from the Penanti, Bukit Mertajam and Bandar Perda stations to the scene.

“Upon arrival, firefighters found three houses engulfed in flames. The fire also damaged a Toyota Yaris car, which was almost 90 per cent destroyed, and three motorcycles comprising a Honda RS (90 per cent destroyed), a Honda Wave (10 per cent) and a Suzuki (15 per cent).

“A 50-year-old man was found unconscious outside one of the houses, and he was immediately sent to hospital by the medical team for further treatment. He is reported to be in stable condition,” he said in a statement.

He said the fire was brought under control at 3.56 am and fully extinguished at 5.38 am.
