21/01/2026 03:03 PM

PARIS, Jan 21 (Bernama-dpa) -- French multinational carmaker Renault will begin producing military drones in response to a Defence Ministry request, a company spokesman announced on Tuesday, reported German Press Agency (dpa).

Renault will work along with Turgis Gaillard, a company that has already designed a drone for the military, under the auspices of the country's armaments directorate, he said.

Further details on drone production were not provided. The company has expertise in the design, industrialisation and serial production of high-tech products, while maintaining quality standards and meeting cost targets and deadlines.

The Les Échos newspaper reported the two companies would seek to develop a remote-controlled long-range device to be used for observation and reconnaissance, to produce 600 units per month.

The contract with an initial value of €35 million (US$41 million) could provide Renault with revenues of €1 billion (US$1.2 billion) over 10 years.
