Raja Muda of Perlis: Ziarah Mahabbah Brings Religious Institutions Closer To Ummah

TRANG (Thailand), Jan 23 (Bernama) -- The Ziarah Mahabbah programme organised by the Perlis Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPs) to the Andaman region in southern Thailand, now in its 11th edition this year, continues to serve as an effective platform for bringing religious institutions closer to the local community.

The Raja Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin Putra Jamalullail, who is also MAIPs president, said the programme provides opportunities to better understand the real-life realities of the ummah, share experiences and explore potential cooperation in areas such as welfare, education, asnaf development and the management of Islamic affairs.

“The concept of ‘mahabbah’, which forms the core of the Ziarah Mahabbah programme, is very much in line with the teachings of Islam, which call upon its followers to know, understand and help one another, and to do good regardless of religion, race or culture.

“More importantly, it nurtures a sense of togetherness, compassion and shared responsibility in strengthening the well-being of Muslims in this region,” he said in conjunction with this year’s programme, which is being held in Krabi over three days beginning today.

Tuanku Syed Faizuddin who led the Ziarah Mahabbah delegation was accompanied by the Raja Puan Muda of Perlis, Tuanku Dr Hajah Lailatul Shahreen Akashah Khalil.

At the programme, Tuanku Syed Faizuddin presented a contribution of 40,000 baht (about RM5,135) from MAIPS to Masjid Waqaf here, while Tuanku Dr Hajah Lailatul Shahreen presented contributions 1,000 baht (about RM128) each to 21 orphans, as well as the needy members of the kariah.

Later, the Raja Muda of Perlis and the Raja Puan Muda of Perlis jointly launched the promotion of a Perlis traditional dish, Kurma Daging, at a restaurant here.

MAIPs chief executive officer Mohd Nazim Mohd Noor said the council has established smart partnerships with the Islamic Religious Councils (MAI) of six Andaman regions in southern Thailand in various fields for the benefit of the Muslim community.

He said the strategic cooperation was forged through a workshop held in conjunction with the ‘Multaqa Ummatan Wahidah’ (One Ummah Gathering) between MAIPs, led by Tuanku Syed Faizuddin, and the six MAIs of the Andaman region, namely Krabi, Ranong, Phuket, Phang Nga, Trang and Satun on March 14, 2015.

Mohd Nazim said the focus of this year’s Ziarah Mahabbah programme is on sustaining cooperation between MAIPs’ Akademi Transformasi Asnaf (ATAM) Sdn Bhd and entrepreneurs, as well as industry experts in Krabi, with the aim of providing suitable skill-based training for the asnaf in Perlis.

“Several other programmes are also being sustained through collaborations with parties such as Perlis state government for the Visit Perlis 2026 and Perlis food promotion, Dewan Bahasa dan Pustaka (Jawi and Malay language programmes), Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Tuanku Syed Sirajuddin (UniSIRAJ), as well as various other state government and private agencies in Perlis,” he added.
