Hockey Stadium Upgrade To Strengthen Sports Development In N. Sembilan - Exco

SEREMBAN, Jan 25 (Bernama) -- The upgrading of the Haji Mohd Said Hockey Stadium in Seremban 2 here is expected to enhance athletes’ performance and support comprehensive sports development at both the state and national levels, particularly in hockey.

State Youth and Sports Development Committee chairman Datuk Mustapha Nagoor said there was no justification for further delaying the project, as an allocation of RM5 million had already been approved and the public had been waiting for some time to utilise the facility.

“The allocation has been approved and submitted to the Public Works Department (JKR), but the procurement process takes time. Therefore, if the project can commence as early as May, it would be a positive step and should not be delayed further.

“One of the key factors in strengthening team performance is the availability of conducive and safe training facilities. With better facilities, athletes can train under optimal conditions, which in turn enhances their abilities and achievements,” he told Bernama here today.

Mustapha said all relevant parties were expected to minimise bureaucratic delays and expedite the implementation process to ensure the stadium upgrade project is completed according to schedule for public use.

“If the allocation is approved but not implemented, the benefits will not be realised and this would ultimately be detrimental to the people,” he said.

Yesterday, the Ministry of Youth and Sports (KBS) was reported as saying that the stadium upgrade project is expected to commence in May, subject to the tender evaluation process and the appointment of contractors. The project was tendered on Dec 24, 2025, with the tender closing on Feb 12.

The stadium has been closed since 2020 due to damage to its artificial turf, drainage system and floodlights. In February 2024, KBS allocated RM5 million for the upgrading works.

In another development, Mustapha said upgrading works at the Tuanku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Paroi are currently being implemented with an allocation of RM5 million, covering repainting works, repairs to changing rooms and improvements to the floodlight system.

He also said the state government has approved the development of a new training centre for the Negeri Sembilan Football Club (NSFC) in Mantin, which will enable the team to have its own dedicated training facilities.

“Insya-Allah, we hope all these facilities can be put to immediate use once completed,” he said.
